Choosing a Creche or Nursery in Ogbojo: Questions to Ask on Your Visit
Choosing a child's first school can bring excitement and plenty of questions. You are trusting other people with someone precious, and you want to understand what everyday life will be like for your child.
If you are looking for a creche or nursery in Ogbojo or the surrounding areas of Accra, a school visit gives you the chance to look beyond photographs and a brochure. Meet the people, see the spaces and ask how the school would respond to your child's needs.
You do not need educational jargon or a long interview. Start with these practical questions.
1. Who will care for my child each day?
Ask to meet the people who would work with your child. Find out who your main contact would be and how to reach them when you have a concern.
Useful questions include:
- Who will be responsible for my child's class and daily care?
- How many children and adults are usually together?
- What happens when the usual teacher or carer is absent?
Notice how adults speak to children during your visit. Do they listen, respond patiently and help children who need attention? Everyday interactions can tell you something that a prospectus cannot.
School hours that work for working parents
Choosing a school also means finding arrangements that fit your working day. Early drop-off and late pick-up can make a real difference to family life.
At Atlantic Academy, you can drop your child off from 6am and collect them as late as 7pm. This gives you time to get to work and finish your day without the pressure of leaving early or rushing to collect your child.
During your school visit, ask about our Early Drop-Off and Late Pick-Up arrangements and discuss what your family needs.
2. How will you help my child settle in?
Tell the school about your child: what they enjoy, what comforts them and whether they have spent time away from you before.
Ask what the first days would look like, how staff respond if a child becomes upset and how they keep parents informed. Discuss any support your child needs with communication, eating, rest or toileting.
This conversation should help both you and the school prepare for the transition.
3. What does a typical day involve?
Ask someone to talk you through the day from arrival to collection. Find out about play, stories, conversation, meals, rest and opportunities to move around.
You might ask: “What would my child actually do during a morning here?” A clear example is more useful than a general promise of excellent learning.
Look at the spaces children use. Ask how outdoor activities are supervised and what happens when the weather changes the usual routine.
4. How do you introduce learning?
Ask how the school approaches language, early reading, writing and number work at different stages. Request an example of an activity and what the teacher wants children to learn from it.
You could ask:
- How do you encourage children to talk and ask questions?
- What kinds of stories, songs, games or practical activities do you use?
- What do you do when a child needs more help or is ready for something more challenging?
The aim is to understand the experience your child would have and how staff respond to different learning needs.
5. How will we choose the right class together?
Explain your child's previous experience, including any nursery or school they have attended. Ask how the school considers that experience alongside age and current learning needs.
At Atlantic Academy, every new child is assessed before class placement. We consider age, prior learning and assessed ability to identify the class that best reflects the child's learning needs. We do this in partnership with you, the parent.

6. How will you keep me informed?
Ask how you will hear about your child's day and learning, who you should contact with questions and how concerns are discussed.
A useful question is: “If you noticed that my child was finding something difficult, how would you tell me and what would happen next?”
Also find out how to pass on information from home that may affect your child at school.
7. What are the practical arrangements and full costs?
Ask for the current fee information and clarify which items are included and which are paid separately. Discuss payment arrangements directly with the school.
Before deciding, check:
- Opening and collection times, including any extended-care arrangements.
- Meals, snacks and what you need to provide.
- Collection procedures and how authorised adults are identified.
- How the school contacts you if your child is unwell or there is an incident.
- Availability, the admission steps and what happens before the first day.
Leave with clear answers
After the visit, write down what felt reassuring, what you observed and anything you still need to clarify. If you are comparing schools, use the same questions at each visit.
The purpose is to find a place where you understand the arrangements, feel comfortable speaking with the team and can discuss your child's needs openly.
